YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, Westchester County — The accident occurred on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Pappous Greek Kitchen on Commerce Street in Yorktown Heights. Patrons and workers experienced a shocking incident when a car crashed through the front of the restaurant on Thursday afternoon. The restaurant was filled with customers at the time, but fortunately, no one was injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Jeep, an elderly woman, accidentally had the Jeep in drive instead of reverse while trying to get out of her parking spot at the Chase Bank next door. The surveillance video from the restaurant shows an employee sitting in a chair just inches away from the impact.
The staff members at the Pappous Greek Kitchen were quick to react and helped everyone evacuate the building safely. The Building Department was called to the scene to assess the structural damage caused by the accident. The restaurant and bank are now exploring more permanent barriers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This is not the first time that the Pappous Greek Kitchen has experienced an accident of this nature. In July of last year, a car careened into the restaurant’s rear parking lot. Thankfully, no one was injured in that incident either.
