YONKERS, Westchester County —A car accident in Yonkers led to a woman being trapped underneath a vehicle.
Surveillance footage captured the horrifying scene that took place around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
A woman walking across New Main Street was hit by a car, causing her to fall to the ground.
As she tried to get up, the video showed the driver getting out of the car, but failed to put it in park. The car then rolled forward, hitting the victim again and trapping her under the front wheels.
A good Samaritan driving in the opposite direction stopped his car and ran to the blue car to stop it. With the help of other good Samaritans, they used a jack to lift the car off the pinned woman until emergency crews arrived. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver from North Carolina, who struck the woman, stayed on the scene and spoke with investigators. No charges were filed, as it was deemed a freak accident by the police.
During the day, New Main Street in downtown Yonkers is a busy commercial strip with heavy traffic, making crossing the street challenging. However, even at night when it’s less crowded, the dangers remain.
